These biscuits are the epitome of comfort, perfectly paired with the sweetness of honey or jam, the richness of cheese, or the savory goodness of bacon. Whether for breakfast, brunch, or any meal, these biscuits are a timeless Southern treat that embodies the heart and soul of Southern comfort food.

Ingredients

•1 1/2 cup White Lily Self Rising Flour

•1/8 tsp baking soda

•3 tbsp vegetable shortening, chilled

•3/4 cup Buttermilk

•1/2 cup Heavy cream, very cold

•1/2 stick salted butter

•1 cup all-purpose flour for shaping

Instructions 1. Preheat oven to 475°. 2. Adjust oven rack to just above the middle. Spray 8-inch round cake pan with cooking spray. 3. In medium mixing bowl, whisk together self-rising flour and baking soda. 4. With your fingers work shortening into flour mixture until there are no shortening lumps larger than a pea. 5. Stir in buttermilk and cream, let stand for 3 minutes.

6. Place a biscuit-size lump of wet dough into a pan of all-propose flour. Coat it before shaping into a biscuit and place it in the cake pan. 7. Push the biscuits tightly against each other so they will rise up and not spread out. Go all around the sides and put 2 in the middle. 8. Drizzle melted butter over the top and bake until lightly browned, about 15-20 minutes. 9. Serve warm with more butter and your favorite biscuit toppings!
