This recipe is a must for anyone looking to put together a simple and delicious meal for the family. The sweetness of the honey, the saltiness of the soy sauce, and the fragrant flavor of the garlic come together to create the perfect dish! Next time you have a hankering for some mediocre shopping mall quality Chinese food, make this instead!

Ingredients

  • 6 boneless, skinless chicken thighs

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil

  • 1 tablespoon salted butter

  • 6–8 medium garlic cloves, minced

  • 1/2 cup raw honey

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon chili crunch (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • 1 tablespoon water

  • sliced green onions

  • toasted sesame seeds

  • cilantro

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken thighs with salt and pepper.

  2. In a small bowl, combine the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and chili crunch (if using). In a separate small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water, then add this to the honey mixture, stirring until smooth.

  3. Heat the oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the chicken thighs and cook until almost done(150°F), browning both sides. The pan should be hot enough for the chicken to sizzle as it hits the oil.

  4. Once the chicken is nearly cooked through, add the butter and minced garlic to the pan with the chicken. Sauté for about 30 seconds, until the garlic is fragrant.

  5. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce to a simmer.

  6. Continue simmering on low heat, uncovered, until the chicken is fully cooked (internal temperature of 165°F-170°F) and the sauce has thickened to a sticky consistency.

  7. Remove from heat and top with toasted sesame seeds, cilantro, and sliced green onions before serving.
